In case of Mikkeli housing fair 2017 Tehomet provided a story to remember. Pine trees that once stood years in the area was cut down when construction of the housing fair area began in 2016. Tehomet had the idea to give new life to these trees and bring them back in a form of a lighting pole. Trees were sawn as raw wood material in Metsä-Wood and processed as glulam timber at Kuningaspalkki factory in Hartola. Further development took place in Parikkala wood pole factory.
This approach is a good example how to use local materials wisely and ecologically. In addition to the wooden poles, smart lighting was incorporated into the project which also brings added eco value to the area.
It is fair enough to say that these trees went literally back to their roots. Now they continue to beautify the landscape by their presence in daytime and keep enlighten the pathways for nocturnal voyagers in dark seasons to come.
